We collect two types of information: personal data and anonymous data.
You are not obligated to provide Personal Data to us in order to use the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal. However, if you do not provide Personal Data, you may not be able to visit all of the areas of the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal and may not be able to use all of our online services. In addition, we may not be able to offer you services that build on Personal Data or require us to contact you personally; in particular, we may not be able to provide a homepage that is tailored to your individual needs, and you may not be able to participate in events and other activities via the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal.
When you have registered as a user of the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal or when you use our online service, we collect statistically relevant information pertaining to the use of the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal. In principle, we process and use data for statistical purposes separately from your other Personal Data. These data can therefore not be used to identify or contact you. Such data include, for example, demographic information (age, profession, or gender) and other information about you as an individual (“Anonymous Data”). We use Anonymous Data to obtain an overview of the users of the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal as well as to improve the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal.
No Collection of Special Categories of Personal Data
We do not collect particularly sensitive categories of data about you as an individual, such as health data, genetic or biometric data, your ethnic background, religious or political convictions, or details about your sexual life, via the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal.
Information from Other Sources
In certain circumstances, we may supplement the data we collect with data from other sources. Such information helps us to evaluate and improve the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal and our online service; at the same time, this information helps us to assess our users’ preferences and thus to adapt the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal and our online service to your specific needs. We only supplement data for internal purposes; we will not combine such data to create a comprehensive personality profile of you.
This portal is operated by the Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation with the following business address: Am Bahnhof 1, 82449 Uffing am Staffelsee, Germany. The Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation is represented by Frithjof Finkbeiner, Chair of the Board of Directors, telephone: 08808 9345, [email protected] Currently, all of our servers are located in Germany. However, in the future, we may also transfer your data (including your Personal Data) to servers in countries outside of the European Union (EU) and process your data there. Please note that it is possible that not all of these countries have a level of data protection comparable to that of the EU (e.g., the USA). In such a case, we will implement appropriate measures to protect your interests in accordance with Data Protection Law.
WHERE AND WHEN ARE DATA COLLECTED IN THE PLANT-FOR-THE-PLANET PORTAL (INCLUDING BY MEANS OF COOKIES AND ANALYTICS TOOLS)?
We collect your data (including Personal Data) by various means, in different locations, and at various times on the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal. The following describes how we collect the majority of information about you:
Registering as a User or for Membership, Sponsorship, a Tree Donation or Other Donation, and for the Tree Counter
In order to participate in the password-protected area of the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal and to create your own entries (e.g., to upload photos or reports, comment on articles, write in the guestbook, or contribute to discussion forums) or to contact other users, you must register as a user. Before you can register as a user of the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal or for membership, sponsorship, a tree donation or other donation, or for the tree counter, you must provide a variety of information about yourself, including Personal Data. We need these data in order to be able to identify our users and contact them if needed, to prevent spam entries and fraudulent behavior, and to improve the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal and our online service. Furthermore, we collect and store your data in a database when you plant or donate trees so that you can generate your own tree counter. You are free to provide further demographic data (date of birth, phone number, specific information on your physical address, academic titile) in addition to the required information that is needed for registration (name, gender, language, email address, nationality; in the case of membership, sponsorship, a tree donation or other donation, also your physical address and payment information). Such voluntary information is accordingly not labeled as required information on the registration form; however, this information is necessary for us to better tailor the Plant-for-the-Planet forum to your individual needs.
Registering a Plant-for-the-Planet Club
Plant-for-the-Planet clubs are registered via email, not via the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal. To register a Plant-for-the-Planet club, please send the following information (including Personal Data), which we will enter in our CRM database so that we can contact club members in the future and manage the club’s portfolio: information about the club coordinator (name, email address, date of birth, nationality), information about the club, and a list of members and the elected local board members as well as their contact information. We will not publish the names of club members or club coordinators.
You may send us inquiries at any time, even without registering as a user, by using the contact form provided in the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal. For the purpose of processing your inquiry and contacting you, we collect, process, and use Personal Data (such as your name, email address, and telephone number) and the information that you have voluntarily provided in the inquiry. We save this information in order to be able to answer follow-up questions.
You can request to receive our periodic newsletter in the Plant-for-the-Planet Portal. For this subscription, we collect Personal Data (such as your email address), which we need in order to forward the newsletter to you and to verify that you are the owner of the listed email address and that you agree to receive the newsletter. You will only receive the newsletter after giving your explicit consent. You may revoke this consent at any time, by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link in the newsletter.
